International technology Group ANDRITZ has successfully started up the PrimeDry Steel Yankee (diameter: 3.7 m; shell length: 4.3 m) supplied to Doh-Ei Paper, Japan. At its Hokkaido mill, Doh-Ei produces 4,500 t of facial tissue and 14,500 t of toilet tissue per year made from 100% recycled paper.

Fortress Paper Ltd., is pleased to announce that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Dresden Papier GmbH, a leading manufacturer of wallpaper base, has operated 24 hours per day (100% utilization) without stoppage for 20 consecutive days compared to an annual average utilization rate of 93% in 2011. As a result, waste has been reduced to approximately 5% from an annual average waste rate of 9.35% in 2011.

EC approves Euro 83 million investment aid for Mondi's Åšwiecie PM in Poland

The European Commission has authorised under EU state aid rules public support for two regional investment projects, one in Poland in favour of paper companies Mondi Åšwiecie and Mondi Packaging Paper Åšwiecie and one in Germany in favour of the German solar modules producer Masdar. The Commission concluded that the measures comply with the regional aid guidelines (see IP/05/1653 and MEMO/05/491), because the aid intensity, the beneficiaries' market shares and the capacity created by the assisted projects are sufficiently low to ensure that the benefits of the aid for regional development will outweigh any potential distortions of competition brought about by the aid.

Metso to install IQ quality control system on Stora Enso Skoghall's BM 8 in Sweden

Metso has received an order for a new Metso IQ quality control system from Stora Enso Skoghall. The system will be installed on BM8, one of the largest board machines in the world with an annual production amount of over 400,000 tons. The order was placed after careful evaluation, since Stora Enso places high demands on availability. One of the main criteria for the choice of supplier was to minimize the risk of production losses, both during the project phase and during normal operation of the board machine.

France-based Seyfert Descartes to lose 400 tonnes/day due to PM1's damaged post drying section; operations likely to resume in four weeks

On Friday, 20.04.2012 a part of the post drying section of the paper machine I at Descartes has been damaged for so far unexplained reasons. The shutdown will last approx. 4 weeks. Paper machine IV is not affected by that damage and is able to continue the production. The loss of production will be about 400 to per day.
